Why we won't use Ultra-slim double-glazing:
It's possible to write a long list of shortcomings, but briefly:
• They fail to conform to industry standards in both construction and installation
• Their insulation performance falls far short of what can be achieved by other, cheaper, methods
• The installation is labour-intensive. It makes money for the installer, but provides the customer with poor value for money.
Eg:
Relative cost & performance for sealed unit double glazing in two 19th Century 8/8 Georgian sash windows:
SupaSash std 24mm U=1.2 £88
Slimlite 12mm U=1.9 £338
SupaSash HM 24mm U=0.9 £377
Spacia vacuum 10mm U=1.4 £1852
Add in labour costs of perhaps £100 or more, (including either balances or lead weights) and even with the cost of two new sash frames, SupaSash wins hands-down on cost, efficiency, and proven life-expectancy.
